Serving Coachella Valley and Surrounding Communities
We're Just Getting Started
Desert Cares Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization launched October 2025 to serve the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities. We raise funds to provide grants to local hospices, home health, and care providers to help uninsured and under-resourced individuals receive essential care and supportive items. By removing financial barriers, we help providers extend care to those who need it most.
We are starting our journey by supporting local agencies in the Coachella Valley that provide home health and hospice care. We are seeking donations to:
- Help local hospices provide end-of-life care to uninsured insured individuals and people with limited resources to cover the related expenses. The average cost for an individual receiving standard care is between $6,000 and $7,000 per month.
- Pay for essential items not covered by insurance but are needed by people receiving home health and hospice care such as prescription co-pays, sheets and blankets that properly fit home care beds, quality pillows for comfort and support, medical equipment, meal replacement shakes, and hygiene essentials. One-time costs average $400 and ongoing monthly costs are between $500-$700.
What's Next for Desert Cares Foundation
As we grow, Desert Cares will expand our support to:
- Increase the level of support to home health agencies including skilled nursing care, physical therapy, wound care, and activities of daily living such as bathing and dressing
- In-Home Supportive Services costs for non-medical services such as bathing, grooming, dressing, cleaning, and errands
- Daily rates associated with Adult Day Centers
- Costs associated with respite care for caregivers
- Behavioral health costs
- Covering travel costs incurred by out-of-town relatives traveling to visit family members in hospice care
- Education and training costs for people seeking a career in health and human services
Structure and Oversight
The Desert Cares Foundation, Inc. received its IRS exemption [501(c)(3)] on July 24, 2025 and we are public charity. Donors can deduct contributions made to Desert Cares Foundation. Our EIN is 39-3422083.
The foundation is governed by a four-person Board of Directors with several years of experience in health care, human services, and non-profit management. Each Director serves a one-year term and can serve a maximum of three consecutive years.
85% of all donations are used to support services. The remaining 15% covers operational and administrative costs (rent, phone, accounting services, insurance, etc.).
Desert Cares bookkeeping and financial reporting are managed by M&J Tax Services.
